FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS | | | Product FAQs | | What is a liquid herbal extract? A liquid herbal extract is a concentrated solution made by extracting (pulling or "washing") the herb's chemical constituents out of the inert herb fiber with a solution of alcohol and water or glycerin and water. A good liquid herbal extract should optimally preserve the aroma, taste and biological activity of the herb from which it is made. Vanilla extract is a commonly known liquid herbal extract that is mainly used in food applications as a flavoring. What is the purpose of alcohol in liquid herbal extracts? Grain alcohol is the best food-grade solvent for extracting the medicinal constituents of herbs. Food-grade grain alcohol serves both as an extraction medium and a preserver. Many of the phytochemicals that are sought after in herbs are not water soluble. Thus alcohol is usually the most suitable means of extraction. Finally alcohol is a great carrying agent, which facilitates the absorption of the herb's constituents into the bloodstream. | Tongkat Ali SuperTest™ Nature’s Testosterone Booster By age 60 most men have only 2% bio-active testosterone remaining in their systems. |
What is the alcohol content of your herbal extracts and how much alcohol am I really consuming? Our herbal compound formulas typically contain 47%-55% alcohol. While our individual/single herbal extracts contain from 20%-90% alcohol. The amount of alcohol contained in any extracts is dependent upon the herb being extracted and the herb’s composition of alcohol and water-soluble chemical constituents. For example, to fully extract a plant comprised of high amounts of resins , an extract medium solution containing 75%-90% alcohol might be required. An extract of this plant made with a lower amount of alcohol will contain smaller amounts of resins and therefore will be of lower quality than the higher alcohol extract.
The amount of alcohol you consume in a dose of liquid extract is actually very small. For example, taking 30 drops of a liquid extract that contains alcohol content of 45% to 50% amounts to consuming 1/65th of a can of beer or 1/85th of an 8-ounce glass of wine. Also, if you mix those 30 drops of this liquid extract into 2 ounces of water, that mixture would contain only 0.59% alcohol.
| What is the best way to take liquid herbal extracts? You should always put liquid extracts into water or juice for consumption. We don’t encourage you to take the herbs directly from the dropper. Instead mix the prescribed number of extract drops into 1 to 2 ounces of warm water or your favorite juice unless the label directs otherwise. Certain herbs, such as Tongkat Ali SuperTest™ , because of their stronger taste, might require more water. For stronger tasting products we have added glycerine or other sweeteners to help with flavoring. For optimal results, sip the mixed drops so you can savor the extract's flavor and aroma. Although you may not always like the taste, it contributes part of the therapeutic effect of the herb. Always follow label instructions.
