Ingredient Glossary

Alcohol (SDA 38B) (Organic Lavender) Organic alcohol which is denatured (made undrinkable) with organic lavender essential oils is a multipurpose ingredient in cosmetics. It serves as a suspension agent, natural preservative and skin conditioner. Our organic alcohol is non-drying unlike isopropyl alcohol and helps other ingredients in a formula penetrate the skin’s surface.

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice (Organic) – Aloe Vera is an ubiquitous cosmetic ingredient due to its affinity to the skin for excellent hydration, collagen stimulation and blemish correcting capabilities. Aloe Vera contains antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, twenty amino acids, saponins and lignans. The presence of lignans enhances the skin penetrative and absorption capabilities of Aloe Vera.

Aspen Bark Extract – Powdered extract from the bark of the Aspen Tree. Aspen Bark is utilized as a natural preservative. Aspen Bark is also rich in natural salicylates making it an alternative to salicylic acid for pore refinement and acne control.

Black Currant Seed Oil – An antioxidant rich oil that is great for the skin’s elasticity and anti-aging.

Castor Seed Oil – Saponified Castor Seed (Bean) oil is terrific cleansing, lathering and skin conditioning agent for use in soaps, cleansers and body washes.

Cetearyl Alcohol – Cetearyl Alcohol is derived from Coconut and Palm Oil fatty alcohols. Cetearyl Alcohol is utilized as a thickening agent and also greatly enhances skin penetration of other ingredients.

Chamomile Hydrosol (Organic) – A soothing anti-inflammatory ingredient for dry and sensitive skin types.

Coconut Oil – We saponify organic coconut oil for use in cleansers and body washes. Coconut oil is one of the most fatty acid dense of the nut oils providing excellent lathering and nutritive properties to the skin.

Cranberry Seed Oil – An emollient oil with one of the highest known concentrations of phytosterols and fatty acids of any seed/nut oil. Excellent for anti-aging and sun protection preparations.

Cucumber Extract – An extract useful in anti-aging preparations for its skin tightening abilities and anti-oxidant properties. Cucumber extract is also high in enzymes that are essential in the process of collagen production and growth.

Decyl Glucoside– Decyl Glucoside is an EcoCert certified ingredient made from corn and coconut and used as a surfactant and foaming/cleansing agent. As a surfactant, Decyl Glucoside gives a product a smooth gliding feeling when placed upon the skin while also producing a generous cleansing foam.

Flax Seed Meal – Flaxseed is one of the richest sources of the fatty acid linolenic acid. Linolenic acid is a requirement for the product of collagen, the building block of skin cells. In addition to its linolenic acid content, Flax Seed can be utilized as a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells without skin irritation and damage.

Glyceryl Stearate – Glyceryl Monostearate is an EcoCert certified ingredient used to thicken and stabilize cosmetic formulations while also yielding good skin moisturizing abilities.

Grapeseed Extract – Helpful to stabilize the structure of skin cells specifically collagen.

Guava Fruit Extract – antioxidant fruit extract used for its anti-aging properties.

Hyaluronic Acid – A potent skin moisturizer which helps repair connective tissue in the skin leading to younger looking skin. Hyaluronic acid is made through the fermentation of yeast with glucose and salts.

Jasmine Oil – The essential oil from Jasmine Grandiflorum flowers.

Lavender Hydrosol (Organic) – A humectant and anti-inflammatory which helps heal and balance the skin. Beneficial for both dry and acne-prone skin.

Lemon Balm Hydrosol (Organic) – A tremendous anti-inflammatory for acne and blemish prone skin. Mild astringency properties help Lemon Balm Hydrosol to be highly effective for oily skin problems.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil – Cold pressed from the seeds of Meadowfoam plant, Meadowfoam seed oil is an excellent emollient oil which helps prevent trans-epidermal water loss.

Orange Peel – Used as a gentle exfoliator in facial scrubs and cleansers. The white part of the orange peel contains nearly as much Vitamin C as the flesh itself.

Panax Ginseng (Organic) Extract – The active chemical constituent in Ginseng, Ginsenosides, contains natural steroidal compounds which assist in stimulating new skin cell growth. Ginseng is also high in antioxidants that help scavenge free radicals which produce signs of aging skin.

Rice Bran Oil – An emollient oil high in a plant sterol, gamma oryzanol that is effective for sun protection and improving micro-circulation in the skin’s surface.

Rose Hydrosol (Organic) – Rose hydrosol can be used on all skin types as a humectant, sebum control and anti-wrinkle agent.

Silk Peptide (Hydrolyzed Silk) – A skin moisturizer derived from 100% silk protein. Silk contains over 18 amino acids.

Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate – an Ecocert certified natural food grade emulsifier with has an exceptional skin moisturization quality. Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate is as both emulsifier and thickening agent in cosmetics.

Vegetable Glycerin – Natural emollient used to soothe skin and help retain moisture.

Wheat Grass Extract – Useful in all anti-aging serums because of its unique nutritional profile. Wheat Grass contains a variety of trace minerals and importantly the anti-aging enzyme S.O.D. (Super oxide disumutase) which are hard to obtain from many food sources.

Witch Hazel Hydrosol – An astringent useful for combination and oily skin toners.

Xanthan Gum – A thickening agent for cosmetic formulation derived from the fermentation of sugar (usually corn sugar) with a bacteria called Xanthomonas campestris. Xanthomonas Campestris is a naturally occurring bacteria which transforms a simple sugar into a complex carbohydrate energy source.

Yeast Extract – Used as a moisturizer and collagen replacement for skin and hair.
